General Position Summary
Controls noxious weeds for individuals and agencies under contract with Klamath County. (Seasonal position, not to exceed 8 months. Approximately April - October).

Qualifications

  • Education, Certification, & Experience
    • Experience or training in recognition and eradication of noxious weeds
    • Experience in off-road driving, operating ATV's and small boats; experience operating GPS units and reading maps
    • Thorough knowledge of Klamath County's road system and Oregon State Highway system
    • Accustom to working outdoors
    • Oregon Public Pesticide Applicator's License (Minimum categories: Regulatory Weed)
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Oregon All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Education Card
    • First Aid Certification
    • CPR Certification
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret pesticide labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    • Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Salary and Benefits
This is an hourly, non-exempt position, with a wage range of $ 19.20 - $ 24.98 per hour. The pay range listed here reflects the FULL pay range for this position for the current fiscal year. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises weed control drivers/helpers; organizes and directs daily work activities in the field.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to liquid and dry concentrate, fumes and airborne particles from various herbicides used to control weeds. Employees in this position are required to wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment as required by Klamath County policy and pesticide labels. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work Schedule
The normal work schedule is 8 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
