Senior Valve Services Technician

Job Description:

Provide valve service-related sales and technical support to Applied Control's customers to continually grow our valve services business throughout our territory. Provides in-house and on-site support for Applied Control Equipment control, isolation and pressure management products such as pressure and safety relief valves, control valves and pneumatic, electric and electric over hydraulic actuation. Additionally, may also be required to provide valve walk-downs and/or act as an onsite lead for plant outages and turnarounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver quality solutions and services to our diverse group of customers.
  • Execute specific tasks from defined goals, often without clear definition.
  • Perform pre-testing, disassembly, cleaning, and assembly on various types of valves; including but not limited to: Control Valves, Isolation Valves, Actuators, with a primary focus on Pressure Relief Valves.
  • Repair safety relief valves to meet National Board VR Code.
  • Perform valve pressure and leak tests to National Board, API and ASME standards.
  • Install, repair and commission pneumatic, electric and electric over hydraulic actuators.
  • Troubleshoot problems in the field or remotely in a logical and timely fashion.
  • Assist on local and long-distance field service jobs when required, which may include overnight travel.
  • Lead and/or support each opportunity through the following phases: Project Identification, Pursuit Strategy, Proposal Generation, Execution, Project Completion and Customer Satisfaction Follow-up.
  • Serve as an outside sales resource and subject matter expert for all valve services, including:
    • Control, relief, ball, gate, globe, and check valves
    • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuators
    • Instrumentation and accessories, i.e. solenoids, switch boxes, digital positioners, controllers, etc.
    • Installation, maintenance, and commissioning services
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities with new customers and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with all key valve services customers.
  • Initiate, assist, and document walk downs to determine job scope, valve data, and valve location.
  • Work within assigned technical scope, budget and schedule constraints, with direct responsibility for results.
  • May participate with Account Managers and Specialists in customer demonstrations and training.
  • Proactively communicate with the Account Managers and the inside team during service jobs.
  • Travel to customer facilities within the PNW Region along with performing service work in house.
  • Adhere to company and customer standards and safety practices.
  • Maintain consistency and provide proper documentation for work performed.

Skills/Qualifications:
  • General mechanical skills. Prior service experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Card for DOT Transportation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effectively manage difficult or emotional customers and respond promptly to customer needs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Situational awareness and commitment to safety
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of control valves, isolation valves, safety valves, and actuation
  • Ability to access customer equipment which may involve stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders and stairs, riding man lifts, walking scaffolding, catwalks, etc.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team while extensively interfacing with customers.
  • Experience with Smart positioners, valve repair, and pneumatic, electric and electric over hydraulic actuation is preferred.
  • Must be able to read and interpret various part drawings, customer specifications, and valve assembly and maintenance instructions.
  • General understanding of HART and WiHART technologies.
  • Previous experience with industrial valve repair is preferred.
  • Prior knowledge and experience of National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) and ASME code is preferred.
  • Prior Oil & Gas, Power Plant, Pulp and Paper or Refinery experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent exposure to one or more unpleasant (noise, heat, dust, etc.) or hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to work on tasks that occasionally produce a high level of mental/physical fatigue, performed under pressure, requiring intense mental application and attention to detail.
  • Must be reliable and exhibit acceptable attendance habits. Ability to work overtime and/or be on call if needed.

Working Conditions:

Combination of both shop and field settings, with occasional office work. This position may require evening, weekend and holiday hours, as well as overnight travel. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required on occasion.

Base rate range:

Work experience, industry knowledge, and unique skills will be taken into consideration when setting the base wage. Most technicians are hired with a starting wage between $30.00-55.00/hour.

Other compensation: Eligible for additional pay premiums and an annual profit-sharing award.
