Summary: The Controls Engineer plays a vital role on the manufacturing team. The ideal candidate is motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic about configuring, building, and supporting capital equipment. A well-rounded background in mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing aspects is essential. Strong technical skills and a keen understanding of machine safety and guarding are required. The role involves implementing robust system architectures across multiple platforms and developing custom control solutions for various end-of-line packaging applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize experience in PLC programming, HMI programming, control, and electrical systems to standardize and improve existing systems.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for product manufacturing.
  3. Prepare and review electrical CAD drawings to ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements.
  4. Perform electrical and controls programming.
  5. Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to meet specifications and standards.
  6. Provide tier 2 technical support for the Service Department.
  7. Compile data and generate reports on projects.
  8. Conduct detailed calculations to establish manufacturing and operational standards.
  9. Prepare specifications for procurement of materials and equipment.
  10. Estimate labor, material, and construction costs for projects.
  11. Maintain clear communication to meet customer expectations.
  12. Oversee project production to ensure timely and within-budget completion.
  13. Communicate effectively with engineering, production, planning, and other departments.
  14. Manage component selection and bill of materials review.
  15. Take ownership of engineering and manufacturing processes.
  16. Design for manufacturing, lean applications, change management, and revision control.
  17. Maintain confidentiality.
  18. Work under pressure to meet project deadlines in a multitasking environment.
  19. Travel as needed for equipment commissioning and troubleshooting.
  20. Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  21. Identify and recommend departmental and organizational improvements.
  22. Comply with health and safety regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
  23. Support other duties as assigned by the company.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Minimum of 3 years' experience in electro-mechanical product design.
  2. AA/BS in Electrical Engineering or related field (Controls, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, etc.).
  3. Experience with electrical schematic design software (AutoCAD, EPLAN).
  4. Knowledge of HMI, PLC, controls programming, servo systems, VFDs, robotics (AB/Rockwell, Fanuc).
  5. Familiarity with Rockwell Logix Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, Fanuc Robotics, B&R PLC/Motion Control.
  6. Experience with design, production, testing, and installation of capital equipment.
  7. Understanding of industry safety standards and guarding design.
  8. Proficiency in MS Office and ERP/MRP software.
  9. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Systematic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
