The Financial Aid Office serves as custodian of federal, state, institutional and private funds thereby ensuring that students receive all funds for which they are legally entitled. The Financial Aid Office helps students achieve their educational goals by reducing financial barriers.

The Department of Financial Aid, within the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management & Retention (SEMR), based on the Klamath Falls campus of Oregon Tech, seeks qualified candidates for the full-time (1.0% FTE), position of Financial Aid counselor.


The Financial Aid Counselor must ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while processing financial aid applications. The financial aid process includes initial need analysis, packaging and revising financial aid offers. The counselor will evaluate eligibility and award funds for qualified students for a variety of scholarships, loans, grant and employment programs, in accordance with federal, state and institutional policies and procedures. The counselor processes information from internal reports and outside sources to continually monitor aid. Counselor uses federal databases for corrections and federal and state sites to monitor student aid eligibility. This position is required by law to follow a code of conduct per the federal government. This position also supports the universities' mission to recruit and retain students.


The Department of Financial Aid provides information about financial assistance and scholarships to students and families, determines financial aid eligibility and awards funds to applicants in accordance with all applicable policies and rules.


The position provides exceptional customer service and provides input to the office team. As a representative of the university, the incumbent participates in office and university outreach activities, speaking to groups and members of the community.


Training is necessary as a part of this position to stay abreast of changing regulations.


Counseling and computer based duties require the incumbents to be on site during public business hours 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. Additional hours may be required to accommodate fluctuating workload, outreach and in attendance to conferences or training's; or as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree required

  • One year student services experience

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively and respectfully work, communicate, and collaborate in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

  • Ability to work effectively in a high-traffic and frequent interruption environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential information
