    The Senior Air Quality Engineer or Scientist (Senior Environmental Professional) takes an active role in the day to day permitting and compliance management operations with an emphasis in the air quality management and greenhouse gas verification programs, and exposure to other programs including stormwater and hazardous materials management.

    The Senior Air Quality Engineer / Scientist has the following responsibilities:

    • Managing and developing 1-3 direct reports with 1-6 years of experience
    • Setting and enforcing project budgets
    • Writing business proposals to clients and developing new client relationships and maintaining existing relationships
    • Managing staff efficiency (budgets, utilization rates, price multipliers, project margin, etc.)
    • Providing technical training and oversight
    • Providing quality assurance

    The Senior Air Quality Engineer will work out of the Montrose office in Santa Ana, Sacramento or Oakland, California.

    A DAY IN THE LIFE

    The Senior Air Quality Engineer / Scientist reports to the District Manager of Permitting and Compliance Management Services and will focus on air quality permitting and analysis, greenhouse gas verification and compliance management for our client facility operations. The areas of focus include California air quality permitting (NSR, Title V, PSD, etc.), verification of GHG reports and CEQA air quality analysis. Expanded opportunities in Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), NPDES, CERCLA / RCRA Compliance, NEPA Compliance, etc.] may also be available.

    The Senior Air Quality Engineer / Scientist will support a diverse client base including manufacturers, food processors, telecom utilities, electric utilities, hospitals, universities, oil and gas producers, and local government operations through the following functions:

    • Plans multiple projects simultaneously including being the senior technical lead on a project, supervising staff level professionals and technicians.
    • Estimates personnel needs, assigns work, meets completion dates, interprets and ensures consistent application of firm standards.
    • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of technical staff by assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance.
    • Oversees development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner.
    • Consults with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments
    • Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria
    • Responsible for project budget and hours and utilizes time effectively to complete tasks within assigned timeframe(s)
    • Acts as a client manager to understand customer needs and distributes work assignments and proposals to appropriate teams
    • Communicates to leadership when potential issues are foreseen or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget
    • Oversees project set up and authorization paperwork to include: project authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase order requests, and project schedules
    • Oversees project financial management duties to include: project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project/subcontractor contract compliance.
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times
    • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs
    • Participate in the companys continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
    • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attend professional workshops
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Studies from an accredited four-year college or university.
    • Accredited California Lead GHG Verifier, preferably with credentials as a transaction verifier.
    • Working knowledge of NSR, Title V, PSD permitting.
    • Certification as a South Coast AQMD or San Juaquin Valley APCD Permitting Professional is desirable.
    • 8+ years of related experience.
    • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite).
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Work environment will vary depending on nature of assigned tasks.
    • The position may involve local travel as needed.

    Pay: $80,000 - $130,000. Offers will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
